Gulistan was one of the first sons (if not the first one) of the line-founder
721 Kaplan himself. His dam 1167 Djakhan (Djeiran) was a granddaughter of
85 Dor Bairam by sire and
569 Skak by dam. Gulistan comes from damfamily Kizil Mer.
Gulistan was born in 1965 at Komsomol Stud, Turkmenistan. He happened to be brought over to Latvia and as
far as we know he had no purebred offsprings before that. In Latvia he spent most of his life at
3 Vitolu Stalli where he was used as a sire on sport-horse mares based on Latvian breed. He was used at first in show-jumping and afterwards mainly in dressage, getting to high level in this. Gulistan had very good movements and jumps - all that
he passed on to his foals, too.
His foals from warmblood mares also excelled in sports, mainly in eventing. One of his sons from a Latvian-mix mare won a championship of the USSR in three-day-event among young horses.
Gulistan was also used in
Trakehner breeding in
Belorussia for couple of years where his blood remained in Trakehners through some of his daughters.
Gulistan had
had a remarkable personality with nice powerful Akhal-Teke look. He had been graded Elite, with grades 9:10:8:7.
His height was measured in Latvia as much as 168cm!
Last spring we got the very first purebred foal from Gulistan. It's a black filly
Guli-Star out of
Sonata. This is really exciting, as it has happened over 25 years after Gulistan himself had passed away!
We are very happy to have the chance to use Gulistan's unique bloodlines in our breedings!
As Gulistan's semen is very rare and unique, even breeders
in Russia are interested in using it. Unfortunately there are not very many doses left, so we will not sell
Gulistan's semen out but will use it only on our best mares. Check back to see Kaplan's youngest grandchildren
